Not So Fast Mark : How Anna Scholz Dressed the Amazing Crystal Renn

February 24, 2010 / 6 Comments

And so the story rumbles on.

We have been very reluctant to express too much of an opinion about Mark Fast using plus size models in his catwalk show at London Fashion Week. However, after seeing the images of the amazingly beautiful Crystal Renn…umm… how shall we say…not looking her best, we felt compelled to show everyone the difference between designing for a real woman and designing for media coverage.

Crystal looks fab in our LBD in the image below (and fyi, she was one dress size bigger when that photo was taken)!! Also, notice how gorgeous model Hayley Morley looks in her Anna Scholz dress in the bottom image.

We would love to know your thoughts.  Please send us your comments.

It looks as if he made the clothes first, then decided to use plus models. They would have been fabulous if the dresses had actually fit. What was he thinking?????

Crystal is very beautiful but she is not plus size, she is a size 12! This is considered slim in ‘normal life’ and only attracts attention on the catwalk as we are used to such extreme images of thin/underweight models. It is ridiculous to design clothes that do not even flatter a size 12, who is as stunningly beautiful as Crystal! How can us mere mortals ever compare? Anna seems to be the only designer who can cater for real curves and why does everyone else miss the point!!??

You have pretty much summed up how I feel!

These dresses are really not flattering (and it kinda shows on Crystal’s face!).

I agree with your assessment completely. I saw these pictures and thought, ugh! These models looked like they were packed in sausage casings! Just horrible. That’s why we’re lucky to have designers that REALLY focus on curvy women! P.S. I can’t wait to see an Anna Scholz show at NY Fashion Week!

It was almost like a message was being sent, “See, this is why we don’t use plus size model.”

Crystal almost looks likes she was wondering what he was thinking.

I agree that Crystal Renn didn’t look the greatest at the Mark Fast show… I think though, it wasn’t just the outfit but the fact that the Fast show hair and make-up looked a little reminiscent of a zombie, newly awoken. Crystal’s cheeks also look sunken… this is a look she seems to be sporting on red-carpets a bit too at the moment. Still stunning, but I think the comparison of your shoot with the fast show is an interesting comparison. Your light is darker and still shots can always be stylised to absolutely flatter… There may have been duds in your proofs, but consumers will never see them.
I actually really like what Hayley is wearing in both shots!
Needless to say – it seems clear, Anna Scholz designs beautiful clothes for plus-size women and Mark Fast seems to only consider them when the press comes sniffing at Fashion Week. I think Mark Fast using curvier models for press is actually the worse crime here.
