Trend Research for Summer 2011

March 26th 2010
12:19 pm

Our work placements, Anne and Julia, did a trend forecasting presentation for us on Thursday. Always interesting to hear what the next big thing is going to be…

They predicted that digital prints as well as stripes and dots will dominate. They also presented the theme of “Romance” which includes soft pinks and nudes, silky fabrics and lots of ruffles and flounces.  Denim, as ever, will be strong– all different washes, coloured denim and, yes, double denim!

Check out one of their mood boards and be inspired.

Katie and Rinki Tour the V&A

March 26th 2010
10:00 am

Our newest work placements, Katie and Rinki, (welcome, girls!) visited the Victoria & Albert Museum.

Time to say hello…

We were both welcomed into the Anna Scholz company by all members of the team.

Anne and Julia took us under their wings and showed us the ropes.

Once the meet-and-greet with the team was over it was time to get to know the behind-the-scenes of this great fashion company.

Like Anne and Julia, we both thought the V&A was a beautiful and extravagant place.

Our highlights included passing through the different eras of the fashion and jewellery collections, admiring the changing trends from the 17th century to the present day.

The Asia exhibition was another particular highlight — getting to see an overview of another culture.

Anne and Julia are loved by the Anna Scholz team and we hope we can live up to their expectations!

Awww, there’s plenty of room in our hearts for you two also– we’re looking forward to our time together!

A Serenade that Made me Smile

March 25th 2010
3:21 pm

Fashion and beauty guru, Mia Shelton,  was inspired to write a little ditty to me which she included on her blog, Fleurtle.  It’s sung to the tune of “Glamorous Life” by Sheila E (a classic tune for sure!). And it goes a little something like this…

I wear a long Scholz dress of silk
Especially in the summertime
Everybody knows from my coy little wink
I have a lot on my mind

I’ve got big thoughts, big dreams
And a big brown body with curves
Wow I’d like to thank
Ms. Anna Scholz
For making clothes that drape my curves

I want to lead the Glamorous Life
My body needs clothes that are plush
I want to lead the Glamorous Life
Without Anna
It ain’t much!
It ain’t much!

You can hear her sing it herself on Fleurtle: http://fleurtle.com/2010/03/the-anna-scholz-plus-size-collection-is-synonymous-to-the-glamorous-life/

She also included some very lovely words about me. I am absolutely charmed by the whole gesture.

Mia!

Keep bein’ glamorous, Mia!

Anne and Julia Visit the V&A

March 24th 2010
3:30 pm

Submitted by our lovely work placements, Anne and Julia– we have loved working with them these past months and will miss them when they go back to Germany…

Time to say goodbye….

It’s now our last week at Anna Scholz. We both enjoyed our work placements and learned a lot about the company and how it works.

Yesterday we went to a special place: the world’s greatest museum of art and design – the Victoria and Albert Museum. Over 4.5 million objects on 12.5 acres and 145 galleries…Unbelievable!

Our highlights were the jewellery gallery and the beautiful quilts from 1700-2010. Also very impressive was the entrance with a wonderful hall.

And don’t forget the stylish headphones Julia bought in the gift shop!

All in all we both felt very welcome at Anna Scholz and we are glad to have been members of such a nice team.

Now it’s time to introduce the new girls into the Anna Scholz “world” and to say goodbye.

Crystal Shines in Vice Interview

March 19th 2010
5:59 pm

Crystal Renn shows her many glittering facets in a recent interview with Christina Kelly for Vice magazine.  The 23-year-old plus size supermodel discusses her book, Hungry, her struggles with anorexia, her recent divorce and taking up the piano.

After she finally decided to stop starving herself for her modeling career, her life really took off. She immediately felt physically better and threw herself into the plus size modeling circuit. Crystal describes in Vice:

I moved into the Ford apartment and I was the first plus-size model to ever do that. It felt special that they allowed me to do that. I was like, I am still a model, it doesn’t matter what size I am. At a shoot, someone hired me who knew me back in the day when I was really sick. She said, “Wow, you look different! You look healthy, you look happy, what happened to you? Because before, it was disturbing to look at you. You looked faraway, lost, and ill. What is the change?” I remember thinking, OK, do I tell her the truth or do I lie? I decided at that moment that I have nothing to lose. She talked to someone at Teen Vogue and Glamour, and next thing you know I decided to tell my story to both of those magazines.

We think this photo from the interview is amazing!

Kate Dillon to Appear in Vogue’s “Shape Issue”

March 18th 2010
5:15 pm

The beautiful and inspiring plus size model, Kate Dillon, will appear in Vogue’s “Shape Issue” in April 2010.

This is her second appearance in the “Shape Issue” for Vogue and she was the first-ever plus size model to appear in the pages of Vogue.

Here’s a little teaser photo by Patrick Demarchelier from the upcoming magazine that has us very excited.

In a recent interview with Models.com, the Harvard-educated Kate Dillon discussed her career, environmental issues, her philanthropic projects and the importance of having your own “inner life.” Very cool stuff from a very interesting and well-rounded woman– not to mention gorgeous!

Spanx, but No Spanx…

March 17th 2010

A special report and product review from our sales manager, Darren:
While in New York, Anna and I went shopping and discovered shape wear for men from underwear brand 2xist. “The Form Collection” for men had me intrigued. I like the idea of having a waist at long last and thought I would try a pair out.
I was a little disappointed that I didn’t instantly look as buff as the models on the website.  In fact, I’m not sure the Form Trunk made much of a difference except that I could fasten my tailored jacket with a little less strain (that’s always a nice feeling!).  The trunk was fairly comfortable though it had a tendency to roll down over my belly (not such a nice feeling).

At any rate, ladies, guys also have body image issues– I am sympathetic.  For now, I guess I’ll keep sucking it in the old-fashioned way!
