Celebrating Plus Size Women with Jocelyn Brown and Arte TV

October 25th 2010
3:54 pm

I was filming with the German television station Arte TV for a few days last week.  Watch out for a whole evening program about plus size women in spring of next year!

The film crew spent some time with me at my design studio and then we shot some footage with the talented singer, Jocelyn Brown. I was very happy to meet up again with Jocelyn. She has been an amazing customer of ours for years. She is a soul music legend, and we had the privilege of hearing her perform her hit “Somebody Else’s Guy” in the privacy of her living room.

Can’t wait to see her in the Jazz Cafe in December!

This is a really funny video on Spine TV for the cooking show Bitchin In the Kitchen, which shows you how to make “real food for real people.” It is hosted by the gorgeous Naomi Shimada, who is the model for Anna’s Spring-Summer 2011 Black Label photo campaign. Watch, laugh, learn how to make killer mac and cheese!

Naomi also has a fab blog.

Anna Scholz and Beige Join Forces

October 23rd 2010
2:00 pm

Earlier this month, Anna Scholz and the designer’s long-term stockist, Beige, came together to create a special fashion event for the Autumn-Winter 2010 season.

The Beige team– lead by shop owner Leanda– gave personal styling advice and customers had the chance to meet Anna herself.

Customers enjoyed champagne and canapés while browsing a special selection of the new annascholz Autumn-Winter 2010 collection at the shop’s New Cavendish Street location in London.

Leanda and the Beige team pulled out all the stops, creating a beautiful window reflecting the “Putting on the Ritz” theme Anna conveyed in her Autumn-Winter ‘10 photo campaign.

We were delighted so many customers came along and bought from the collection. As you can see, there was something for everyone.

A big thank you to the team at Beige. Anna really enjoyed meeting the customers and seeing her collection being “ooohed” over.

If you missed the event, Beige always have a great selection of annascholz in store. There are two London locations:

44 New Cavendish Street, W1, 020 7953 999 and 8 Hallswelle Parade, Temple Fortune, NW11, 020 8455 1122

Lisa told us that when she wore her paisley print silk tunic dress from Anna Scholz, her work colleague sent her a text saying, “I hope this isn’t too creepy but I thought you looked really lovely today.” :o

“That compliment has made my day,” Lisa said.  “And now i think will wear this dress even more often haha!”

Kirsten sent us this photo of her wearing Anna’s watercolour tunic last May. “I was in Chicago with my best friend Carol for a girls’ get-away weekend,” she wrote. “I love this tunic as it can be dressed up or down – like most of Anna’s kaftans!”

Blogger Event in ‘Gay Paree’

October 21st 2010
12:30 pm

Anna and Cliff made a whirlwind visit to Paris at the weekend to say hi to a whole bunch of fabulous French fashion bloggers. They had the opportunity to present the annascholz brand and philosophy to a relatively new market for us. They also got the chance to hear what  our followers in France would like from us. The best bit, as always, was showing off the wonderful collection and seeing the great time all the ladies had trying the clothes on.

The event was a lot of fun and so well organised by the very lovely Thibault Masson from ma-grande-taille. Keep an eye out as they are about to launch a UK version of the online magazine.

It was a pleasant surprise to find out how many bloggers there are in France and how many of them made it to the event.

They had a great time chatting to everyone and the atmosphere was very lively. Anna finally got to say hello to France TV star Laurence Boccolini who appears on national TV, airs on daily national radio , writes a fashion bible for plus-size women and also has her own blog, Blogolini

Author and actor Stephanie Zwicky of  le blog de big beauty , who recently came to visit us in London, was there along with a whole host of really wonderful people.

These are some of the other bloggers we met. Please check out their blogs and say a big hello to them from the UK.  They will really appreciate it.

Lisa Gallay, Mondeuses Rondes

Estelle, ChaCha

Gaëlle-Vanessa Prudencio, lespitreriesdevanoue

Nathalie Da Silva, feetuxette

Letizia Gosselin, letilor

Marie Bauzon, monage28

Laurence Boccolini, blogolini

Sihem Ih Sawsan, sawsan

Marjolaine, fringhalles

Charlotte from Simply Be attended as well as Andrew from Yours Clothing. It was very interesting for us to hear their presentations and to get the chance to swap notes with other companies.

All in all it was an exhausting day but a very worthwhile experience.

Thank you Thibault and Au Revoir Paris !

I am attaching a photo of me in my new silk cotton cream dotty blouse with my AS cami underneath. I was out to tea with my mum and dad in a little Cotswold cafe and it felt so lovely on.
I bought it at Niche in Shipston in Stour, where I also got a lovely AS jumper dress, black with sequins.
Niche is a lovely shop with a good range of AS pieces, lovely changing rooms and helpful staff who were pulling pieces out of unopened boxes to show me as some of the stuff had just arrived!

Congratulations! Aukje Kastelijn is our September Customer Photo Competition Winner

Aukje looks fabulous and is the winner of a £100 online shopping voucher.

She wrote into us: “I used to wear black most of the time. Not that I really wanted to, but the clothes that were available in the stores and fit me were black most of the time. And then I discovered Anna Scholz a couple of months ago (what took me so long?). I bought my first silk dress, and fell in love. I even like combining prints now, as you see in the picture.”

Customers: Submit your photos now for the September competition.  Send us snaps of you in your favourite Anna Scholz looks and be entered to win a £100 online shopping voucher. You can enter more than once, so keep sending ‘em each month! We’d love to see you.

Anna Scholz & Madison Plus: A Night to Remember

October 5th 2010
3:41 pm

During our trip to New York last month to show the collection, our friends Erica and Aimee from the Madison Plus blog, helped Darren and me to organise a customer, stockist and blogger event. It was a fantastic opportunity for us to meet and reunite with customers, shop owners and bloggers, who are all so vital to the fashion industry.

We sipped some bubbly, caught up on the gossip and tried on lots of clothes! It was great to see so many beautiful women in different shapes, sizes and ages in our dresses.

The gorgeous Nikki Gomez won our raffle and chose our cool stretch tailoring black zip dress as her prize.

Jessica Svoboda offered her fabulous jeans and fellow designer Monif C stopped by too.

Our stockists, Jaclyn from Voluptuous Vixen, Liz from Fresh Ayer and Laura from Lola & Gigi showed their support and struck a few poses. Everyone really brought the Spring-Summer 2011 collection to life!

Beth Ditto Rocks Jean Paul Gaultier

October 4th 2010
6:05 pm

We’re loving Beth Ditto’s look as she worked the catwalk at the Jean Paul Gaultier Ready to Wear show for Spring/ Summer 2011 at Paris Fashion Week this past Sunday.

Ditto, who fronts the band The Gossip and is a UK size 28, has become a fearless icon for plus-size fashionistas. She recently put her name to a clothing range for Evans.

“I don’t understand all these women who say they feel betrayed by fashion. A piece of clothing can’t talk — it can’t tell you that you can’t have it — so really, you’re just telling yourself that,” she told the Times in 2009. “You make yourself the victim, because if you want clothes that bad, then make them yourself. You have to get creative if you’re fat.”
What do you think about Beth’s runway show and/ or her comments?
