What to do this Bank Holiday Weekend

The sun may not plan to have his hat on entirely for this bank holiday weekend, but that’s not stopping us from getting excited for an extra day off and hitting carnival.

Amongst us we’ve all thought of some fun things for you to do that will suit all tastes. Throw on your best Anna Scholz outfit and check out some of these events this weekend.

Great British Food Festival 2014 – Stonyhurst College, Lancashire

23rd-25th August 2014

Hosting a great selection of local food and drink producers, this hugely popular food festival is taking part at stony Hurst College in Lancashire. With lots going on including a men vs food challenge and live chef demo’s, there will be something to suit every taste bud attending.

Edinburgh International Book Festival

9th -25th August 2014

The Edinburgh international book festival is currently being held at Charlotte Square Gardens right in the heart of Edinburgh. The event offers something for just about every age and every interest, bringing readers and writers together for inspiration, entertainment and discussion. There are over 800 authors attending including novelists, poets, scientists, philosophers, sportsmen, illustrators, comics creators, historians, musicians, biographers, environmentalists, economists, Nobel and Booker prize-winners.

Notting Hill Carnival

24th-25th August 2014

Watch the streets of West London come alive with the sound, sights and smells of Europe’s biggest street festival.  Held each August bank holiday, Notting hill carnival will excite your eyes, ears and taste buds (top tip: the jerk chicken is amazing.) Expect a sea of bright colour as amazing floats and costumed performers shake and dance their way through the streets of Notting hill.

Wedding dresses 1775-2014 at the V&A

3rd May 2014 – 15th March 2015

If loud music or busy festivals aren’t your thing, take a look at ‘Wedding dresses 1775-2014’.  exhibition at the V&A. The exhibition looks at the development and history of the fashionable white wedding dress, displaying the most romantic, glamorous and extravagant wedding dresses from their historic achieve. As well as showing historical wedding dress, this exhibition includes loaned dresses from celebrities, such as the purple dress worn by Dita Von Teese for her marriage to Marilyn Manson and the outfits worn by Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale on their wedding day.

Liverpool international music festival

13th– 31st August 2014

Liverpool is currently hosting a 19 day long music festival with acts such from Boy George, Shaggy, Tim Burgess, Goldie, The Hoosiers, Kid Creole, Lemar, Jess Glynne, The Farm, John Power and multi-Grammy nominee Marsha Ambrosius. The August bank holiday weekend will see Sefton Park play host to LIMF Summer Jam. The bank holiday kicks off with Ian Broudie and The Lightning Seeds joining the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in a special concert hosted by Classic FM.

BBC Proms

18th July- 13th September 2014

Take a step back from the noise and rush of London and attend Britain’s most celebrated classical music festival. Over the bank holiday weekend, you can see performances from the Warsaw Philharmonic as well as chamber music groups and soloists at The Royal Albert Hall and Cadogan Hall.
