Anna Scholz Day at Emma Plus

Saturday, May 12 was a fun day for “shore” for Anna and Darren. They spent the day with the team at the Brighton-based shop, Emma Plus, meeting customers and trying on clothes.

Fans of Anna’s clothing had a blast trying on the Spring-Summer 2012 collection, and getting fashion tips from the designer herself.

Anna’s blue and white feather print was a big hit with the women who attended (luckily, Darren blended right in!).

As was the black and white feather print plissee maxi dress.

Other favourite dresses for the day included the hydrangea print jersey cowl neck dress and the poodle print georgette tie-back dress.

Plus-size model Toccara Jones spoke recently at New Jersey Full Figured Fashion Week about how she persistently pursued a career as a model. As ever, this former America’s Next Top Model contestant is engaging and funny.

She modeled from Anna’s Spring-Summer 2012 collection recently for the Curves in Couture fashion show in London. She was a pleasure to work with and looked fierce!

The White Label photo shoot for the Autumn-Winter 2012 season took place this past week, and we’re thrilled with the results. It’s glamorous and sexy with a little edge.

We don’t want to spoil too much, but thought we’d tease you with a few behind-the-scenes photos from the shoot.

The model is Whitney Thompson (winner of cycle 10 of America’s Next Top Model); the photographer is Rachell Smith and the hair and make-up guru is Julia Krajnakova.

Our friend Aimee Cheshire is featured in the May issue of MORE Magazine. Aimee is the founder of the successful retail website and blog, Madison Plus.

As a businesswoman and fashion expert, Aimee shares some great tips for dressing your curves. Here are a few highlights:

Get Your Clothes Tailored. A good seamstress can make alterations exactly where you need them most. Hem skirts and dresses to fall at the slimmest part of your leg (which is never mid calf). Hem wide-leg pants a little on the long side, to lengthen your leg.

Adjust Your Purse Strap. Don’t let your bag hit you at the widest part of your body (for many of us its our hips). That will only add girth. Instead, let it fall to waist height or just above. Either buy bags with adjustable straps or have the bag professionally altered.

Play With Proportions. Loose clothes on top and bottom will drown out your figure. Pair one piece that’s generously cut with a snugger mate; for example, a wide leg pant with a more fitted blouse, or skinny jeans with a tunic top

This Took a Doggone Long Time!

I just had to share this needlepoint creation because it took me about a year and a half to finish! It’s for my stepmother. She wants one for each dog she has owned in her life. This is the Springer Spaniel and he’s called “The Viscount”. I’ve now started the Dalmation who’s called “The Aristocrat”.

Every so often while I was working on it, I’d look down and think, “Wow, I’m spending hours of my life needlepointing a dog in aristocratic clothing! What does this say about me?”

Needless to say, she was most appreciative. Luckily she does needlepoint herself, so she understands how time-consuming it is. She says never give needlepoint away to someone who doesn’t do it themselves.
